A luxury and premium car retailer suffered an estimated £30,000 loss after a London solicitor exploited distance selling regulations to gain full refunds on two Tesla EVs he had owned for over a year.
Volvo has restarted its Test Drive+ service, which allows buyers to book test drives electronically.
Initially the service will be provided via local dealers, but Volvo says that once lockdown restrictions are eased and it is safe to do so, arrangements can be made for cars to be delivered to and collected from customers’ homes or places of work.
At a future date, extended test drives of up to 24 hours will also be available.
Test Drive+ was launched in 2019, in line with Volvo’s move to online sales, and was developed to make it ultra-convenient for customers to experience the brand.

Auto Trader has painted a positive picture of the car retail sector during March’s COVID-19 ‘Lockdown 3’, with consumer confidence reaching new heights and dealers trading at 90% of normal volumes.
The online automotive marketing giant said that data related to the number of vehicles removed from the platform during the first week of the month showed that car sales performance was just 10% down, despite the ongoing coronavirus restrictions on trading.
And an on-site survey conducted in February revealed that consumers confidence in being able to afford their next car was at its highest level (8.75/10) since Auto Trader began tracking it in January 2020, surpassing the previous peak recorded in January (8.60/10) of this year.

Car retailers decision over whether to offer car buyers test drives during COVID-19 Lockdown 3 has been rendered âpurely moralâ after clarification of the law in England, it has been claimed.
Lawgistics legal advisor Nona Bowkis has obtained documentation stating that the UK Governmentâs Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) which clarifies COVID-19 âLockdown 3â test drive legislation with Trading Standards authorities across England and determines that the service is allowed.
Bowkis told AM that the correspondence â provided in connection to a car retailerâs successfully contested case â served to back-up Lawgisticsâ ongoing assertion that test drives have been legal throughout âLockdown 3â.
