Total vehicle production, excluding commercial vehicles, declined by 21 per cent month-on-month in April, due to an 11 per cent fall in manufacturing of passenger vehicles (PVs) and a 23 per cent drop in two-wheelers during the previous month, owing to the second wave of the pandemic, a report said on Tuesday.
Besides, the three-wheelers production fell a massive 86 per cent in April over March, amid lower demand in the domestic market, India Ratings (Ind-Ra) said in the report.
The ratings agency said it believes that the second wave of COVID-19 has interrupted the momentum recorded by the industry in the third and fourth quarters of 2020-21. Eyes 96% localisation; plans 4,500 commercial, non-commercial EVs this year Mumbai-based automotive start-up Earth Energy EV is planning to launch six new commercial and non-commercial vehicles this year for the India market
, with 96 per cent localisation. With its manufacturing plant located in Mumbai, the company aims to produce 4,500 electric vehicles (EV) this year.
Earth Energy EV is also in advanced stages of setting up a greenfield manufacturing facility in Maharashtra with an annual capacity of 65,000 units. Investments for the new facility were not immediately disclosed.
The company will be producing EV batteries in India, which would bring down costs considerably. Earth Energy vehicles are compliant with all public charging stations being set up by both government and private players, it said in a statement.
