decision, but it s been quite an adventure but not the end of the adventure by any means. governor sunewa went onto explain his decision in an op-ed for the washington post titled i m not running for president in 2024, beating trump is more important. the governor writes in part this, our party is on a collision course towards electoral irrelevance without significant corrective action. current polls indicate trump is the leading republican candidate in 2024. he did not deliver on his promises to drain the swamp, secure the border, and instill fiscal responsibility while in office and added $8 trillion to our national debt yet now he wants four more years. if he s the nominee republicans will lose again just as we did in 2018, 2020, and 2022. over the next few months i will travel the country to bring on new voters, inspire the next generation and help grow our party. the stakes were too high for any
credit, which, you know, in the past he had been loathe to do. that s been the great concern here among some republicans that even those who have really opposed trump and said, hey, it s time for change, time for future, maybe that s desantis, maybe tim scott, whoever that might be, but they ll fall back in line if trump looks like he s going to be the guy in the party again. talk to us about that dynamsquk if there s concerns like in 2016 they ll all jump back onboard. i don t think there s any question if trump were the nominee republicans would fall in line with that. you saw larry hogan said something, the former maryland governor, seen others say this who are not trump fans. but, you know, again, early on i do love the karl rove back and forth. of course karl rove is a bush family friend, and former
well, i mean, i think you re right that he is still the most powerful republican. i mean, i ve believed all along real since right up until the election if he wants to run again he ll be the re can nominee. he would not have a meaningful challenger who would have a chance to unseat him and if he was the nominee republicans would likely loose. if you look at the polling with joe biden falling, i m sure his advisers are putting polling in front of him, and he can read, and he s saying look at this, you know. there s no way i ll lose to this guy twice in a row so each if he s not saying he lost externally, so my suspicion is he s going to run again and the party is going to have to grapple with going back to the american people and saying entrust us with this high office again even though the last time we had it with the very same person we had a chaotic ending to the administration in which power was frankly abused, and so i think our unwillingness to put forward a candidate in that sc
