Sexually Transmitted Leadership Will Not Take Us Anywhere

By Nomazulu Thata    My previous article regarding the nomination of Sibangilizwe Nkomo to contest the Zapu presidential candidacy could have come across as too emotional for some people to appreciate my perspective. What is disturbing is that be it Matabeleland, Mashonaland, Manicaland, the Tongaland or whatever corner of the land we live in, we learn and internalise wrong things in our social settings. We should have learnt a lesson from one “Dr” Grace Mugabe that it is improper to think that if she was the wife of former President Robert Gabriel Mugabe, it still did not mean she automatically assumes leadership of Zanu PF on the demise or exit of her husband.

African Dead Aid Will Stop Within 5 Years: Part Two

By Nomazulu Thata                                                                       In part one I concentrated on Dr. Dambisa’s “Dead Aid” book she passionately wrote in 2009 highlighting the need for Africa to shift its focus away from foreign aid and instead, seeking solutions that are sustainable to the economy of Africa and other aspects of development: solutions that bring dignity to the populations of this great continent. Dambisa Moyo wishes for an unconditional cut in aid giving African countries in a specified period of 120 months: after 5 years Africa must define its economic trajectory without aid. This idea it is not meant to punish Africa per se. She is saying, in a nutshell: Africa, please wake up, let us not be permanent beggars; treat ourselves as children, command respect from colonisers. There is no respect in a people that think they are entitled to receiving aid without end. Our co

AID To Africa Is Dead Aid: It Must Be Stopped Part One

By Nomazulu Thata                                                                       We need to ask ourselves critical questions; is foreign aid good for Africa? What purpose is it intended for? Is aid helping the people it is intended to assist in alleviating hunger and poverty in African communities? When did foreign aid to Africa start? Why is there still abject poverty of unimaginable levels existing in our societies especially in the Sub-Saharan Africa? Dr. Dambisa Moyo calls foreign aid to Africa “dead aid” because it has made the continent poorer. Why do we continue to cling on to foreign aid that does not benefit African communities? The same question should be asked: why donor institutions are dishing out aid to African countries even though the aid, since its inception, has done truly little to show for it. Who is benefitting on the other end of the donor-recipient equation?
