Problems at the Amatola Water Board appear far from over after the Makhanda high court on Wednesday ruled in favour of five board members whose term of office was terminated by water and sanitation minister Senzo Mchunu in 2022.Mchunu fired the 10-member board in March 2022 citing instability in the water utility as the reason.
The officials, who were found to be irregularly appointed by the Public Service Commission in the Eastern Cape, were largely seen to be linked to former Eastern Cape transport MEC Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe, who is currently ANC's member of provincial legislature.
