Marie Bochet hoping for positive season sign-off at Europa Cup Finals

France’s star Para alpine skier juggled constantly changing schedules, mounting pressure in the year before the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games and, to top it all off, contracted COVID-19.  Now about to race at the Europa Cup finals in Malbun, Liechtenstein, the eight-time Paralympic champion is hoping to finish this challenging season on a positive note. The competition, consisting of one giant slalom and one slalom race, will be held until Friday with 52 skiers from 14 nations. It is the sixth and final stop of the Europa Cup season that started in late November.

Imagen Germany s Anna-Maria Rieder took gold in all four races she competed in at the Leogang 2021 World Cup in Austria ⒸBenedikt LexBy Lena Smirnova | For World Para Snow Sports Germany’s Anna-Maria Rieder finished the World Cup races in Leogang with a clean sweep of four gold medals to finish off the 2020-21 World Cup season on a high note.  With her second slalom victory in the women’s standing class, Rieder took Germany’s count of gold in the women’s races in Leogang, Austria to nine out of 12 races.  Rieder was at least 5 seconds faster than her teammate Andrea Rothfuss in both slalom races to claim the gold. And she is eager to make even further improvements ahead of next season.

Aarsjoe earns second successive gold at World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup

Thursday, 21 January 2021 Ebba Aarsjoe of Sweden triumphed for a second time in the women s standing contest at the World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup in Veysonnaz. Aarsjoe, who also competes in able-bodied races and is a relative newcomer to Para Alpine skiing, secured her second successive win in the giant slalom at the Swiss resort.  The 20-year-old beat France’s 20-time world champion and six-time Paralympic champion Marie Bochet and Russia’s Varvara Voronchikhina to top the podium again.  I am proud and a bit relieved, Aarsjoe said.  These girls are amazing skiers and most of them have been competing for many years before I even started with FIS.

Imagen Sweden s Ebba Aarsjoe won the first two women s standing giant slalom races of the 2020-2021 World Cup season ⒸLuc Percival for World Para Snow SportsBy Lena Smirnova | For World Para Snow Sports Double gold was a perfect start to the World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup for Sweden’s Ebba Aarsjoe in her first major competition of the season. The World Cup kicked off in Veysonnaz, Switzerland on Wednesday (20 January) with two giant slalom races. The Swedish standing skier, who also competes in able-bodied races, is a relative newcomer to the Para alpine scene, but this did not stop her from beating the two biggest names in her class - the first and second in the overall rankings last season, France’s Marie Bochet and Russia’s Varvara Voronchikhina.
