two u.s. citizens are now in jail accused of plotting terror attacks inside the united states. federal prosecutors say noelle velentzas told an undercover officer she was inspired by isis and wanted to make history at home. she and her former roommate allegedly had propane tanks and studying how to build bombs. velentzas s husband says she s at a loss for words and never saw any of this coming. her lawyer says she plans to plead not guilty. at least five people are dead and more than a dozen injured after an explosion outside a bus station in northeastern nigeria. witnesses say a woman left her handbag full of explosives next to a bus as passengers were boarding on thursday night. no one has claimed responsibility at this point, but the terrorist group boko haram has carried out similar attacks in that area. german investigators have new evidence about what co-pilot
a girl can only wish. this comes as we learn disturbing new details on the two new york women officials claim were hell-bent on unleashing a wave of terror here at home. noelle velentzas and asia siddiqui are accused of trying to build pressure cooker bombs like the ones used in the boston marathon terrorist attack. i want to get to cnn s jason carroll live in new york with the latest. what can you tell us about thomas? reporter: well she went by the alias the young lioness. she is 30 years old, she s from philadelphia according to the criminal complaint. this criminal complaint lays out all the details and the allegations, basically federal authorities accusing this woman of attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization. one of the quotes here from the complaint reads that she attempted to travel overseas in order to join fight with and martyr herself on behalf of isil. federal investigators began looking at some of her twitter posts where she posted jihadist
isis propaganda. and another u.s. citizen is charged with supporting terrorists who wanted to kill americans abroad. let s bring in cnn counterterrorism analyst and former c.i.a. counterterrorism analyst official phillip mudd and center for the american democracies daveed gartenstein-ross. in brooklyn the two women under arrest. noelle velentzas and asia siddiqui. does this present a new surge in home-grown terror we need to be concerned about? it does in the sense we can see a spike of about 30 cases in the past 18 months it s unprecedented. if you go back to the 2009-2011 period you also had a similar surge in home-grown terrorism in the united states which subsequently subsided. what they ve concerned about is i think social immediate yantd way that isis has come to master social media is changing radicalization patterns in a worse way.

the one in particular that looked like it could have led to a terror attack on u.s. soil as opposed to this new one we re hearing about today. reporter: you re talking about the two men arrested here in new york city from queens new york. arrested on charges of conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction, those two women, noelle velentzas, 28 years old, married with a young daughter and also asia siddiqui, 31 years old. they were roommates, arrested for conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction. federal authorities say these two gathered bomb-making materials including propane panics pressure cooker bombs. according to the criminal mrant, complaint, the women talked about targeting police as well. velentzas husband spoke out and said he had no idea his wife was involved with something like this. not only did he say that about his wife but he also said it about siddiqui as well.
