saying judges are blindably signing no knocks when in the past judges would say you don t need to do a no knock. just do a warrant. do a search. knock on the door. if they don t open it, take the door down, but these no knocks have resulted in a great deal of abuse, and whether it s paul manafort or not, it should concern people. i don t think there was any justification to do a no knock as opposed to a normal warrant. the context is a capitol hill investigation. this came the day after he had gone to the committees with some information, but there was a big chuck grassley was angry with now manafort was or wasn t being forthcoming. there was a real sense he was not giving them everything available to him. they subpoenaed him. they said we ll drop the subpoena if you come this far on our evidence. that s when the fbi went in and say we clearly need access to this information because you re not giving it up. we re hearing different things.
trump s inner circle rattled tonight after learning the fbi carried out a raid on the home of the man who once ran president trump s campaign. paul manafort. it was reportedly a pre-dawn raid one day after manafort met with senate intelligence investigators. sources tell our sara murray that news of the raid took trump s team by surprise and rattled a few cages of the inner circle. this is pretty stunning. we re saying he met with senate intelligence investigators and then in the early hours of the next morning fbi investigators raided his home. it s a pretty stunning thing. what are you learning about the raid? reporter: in a dramatic escalation this coming after paul manafort s team said they had been cooperating with congressional investigators and federal investigators as part of this probe and then this pre-dawn warrant coming to his house and raiding his house, potentially even waking him up in this no knock warrants a sign these investigators were concern
early morning, that s when they say no-knock, asha, no-knock, pre-dawn. right. no-knock is that the fbi does not have to identify themselves before they enter the home. that s different than a knock and announce warrant where they have to knock, fbi, and then they have to wait for some reasonable period of time for the person to answer the door before they go in. again, here, they need to the idea is that they need to go in immediately because there may be a chance that evidence might be concealed or destroyed if the target has some advance warning that the that the fbi is coming in. and typically, these are done early in the morning because the target is likely to be home then, and also for agent safety, and it s less likely that, at that hour of the morning, there will be any kind of confrontation that could result
