"For the last two weeks of January, the DA has been doubling its efforts in the distribution of these interventions to farmers and fishers who have been heavily affected by the typhoon," Agriculture Secretary William Dar said in a news release on Thursday. Of the PHP3 billion, PHP1 billion came from DA's Quick Response Fund (QRF) for the rehabilitation of affected areas particularly in Regions 6 (Western Visayas), 7 (Central Visayas), 8 (Eastern Visayas), 13 (Caraga), and 4-B (Mimaropa) which have been directly hit by "Odette." The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) has also set aside PHP828 million as potential payout to around 79,217 insured farmers and fishers affected by the typhoon. As of Monday, total damage in agriculture was estimated at least PHP2.1 billion in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and Soccsksargen, affecting 76,442 farmers and fishers, with volume of production loss at 101,818 metric tons (MT) and 85,744 hectares of agricultural areas.
