2021 - IT Administrator at the forefront, providing innovative online learning solutions

30 July 2021 - Wits University The Wits Heroes Series celebrates staff members who went beyond the call of duty at the onset of Covid-19 in 2020. An Information Technology (IT) administrator at the Wits School of Architecture and Planning spearheaded a virtual lab for students, staying true to the culture of innovative excellence championed by Wits University. Steven Blumberg, who started working at the university in January 2020, was already trained for battle when Covid-19 reached South African shores in March 2020. Before joining Wits, Blumberg ran his own IT consultancy. The consultancy often offered remote support to customers, making the transition into the online teaching space much smoother for him.

2020-12 - Annual SoAP exhibition goes online

21 December 2020 - Wits University For the first time, the Wits School of Architecture and Planning (SoAP) held its End of Year School Show online. In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the School reconsidered the form that the annual exhibition would take, and on 1 December 2020, launched a virtual exhibition showcasing the student projects. Professor Nnamdi Elleh, Head of School, said of the End of Year School Show that SoAP wants to “first and foremost pay homage and express gratitude to the students, parents, guardians, and above all the SoAP staff who worked as a team and overcame the challenges of online teaching and learning, and ensured that the curricular requirements were met.”
