SERAP Condemns Reported Rearrest Of Labour Party Supporter, Chude Accused Of Planning To Overthrow Government

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has condemned the reported rearrest of a social media influencer, Mr Nnamdi Chude. Nnamdi, a supporter of the Labour Party and Peter Obi who was arrested by the police in Anambra State during the March 18, governorship and State Assembly elections, had said he was accused of “calling out” the police and planning to stage a protest to overthrow the government.

The Nigeria Police Force has rearrested social media influencer and Labour Party supporter, Nnamdi Chude over alleged criminal defamation.   His rearrest is connected to a tweet on his Twitter handle in which he claimed that an Anambra businessman, Chief Emeka Offor, had been engaged by Nigerian 'president-elect' Bola Tinubu to beg Peter Obi to accept the result of the February 25 presidential election. The tweet read: "So @officialBAT called Emeka Offor to beg Peter Obi to accept the rigged result.
