House of Orfeus Panamanian American baritone Nmon Ford—who is in town rehearsing for Detroit Opera’s season-opening opera, Puccini’s Madame Butterfly on October 7, 13, and 15—hosts a free one-hour event on October 11 at Spot Lite at 7pm. The evening will feature portions of his own work, House of Orfeus, which blends opera, house music, and theater. Performing with Nmon will be soprano Haley Sicking and baritone Zachary Hugo. Set in the near future, House of Orfeus is a new version of Ovid’s timeless legend about musician/bard Orpheus, who in Greek mythology descended into the underworld of Hades to recover his lost wife, Eurydice. In this modern retelling, Orfeus, a former military assassin turned musician, confronts his true nature to save the poet Euridice from his adoptive father, Pluto, the fascist ruler of a dystopian empire.
