his decision to lift covid restrictions in connecticut. all in starts right now. good evening from new york. i m chris hayes. as the biden administration, the democratic congress, and the country as a whole try to claw our way out of an unprecedented set of national crises, the republican party coast to coast has found its mission for the year 2021 make it harder for americans to vote. right now we re on track to see the largest rescue bill in recent memory signed into law by president biden this week. it would provide direct relief to americans, billions for vaccination programs, money to reopen schools, keep restaurants open, and not a single republican in either house or the senate has voted for it. instead, after losing the popular vote in seven of the last eight presidential elections going all the way back to 1992, republicans are laser focused on restricting voting access. brennan center s tracking all the state bills aimed at restricting access to the polls. the
legislation than anything passed anything passed at least the last two democratic presidents. legislatively in terms of its progressive reach, in terms of its reach to make things better for people who need the most help. it is definitely on par with the affordable care act, with obamacare. but this bill, what the senate passed this weekend, what the house will pass tomorrow, what president biden is about to sign, will hit a wider target than the affordable care act ever aimed at. as huge an accomplishment as that was to reform the absolutely broke and broken u.s. health care system to try to improve it in a fundamental way, this bill is bigger. it is aiming at more. it will strike what is hoped to be a decisive blow against the pandemic in terms of funding a coherent technocratically skilled national response. everything from testing to the vaccine rollout. we are in the middle of the largest vaccine rollout in the history of the country. this is how we re going to fund it
another state going against the science tonight. the state of wyoming announcing it will repeals it mask mandate, meaning that as of this hour 15 states now do not have a mask mandate and three more states, including wyoming, are planning to end theirs in the next coming days. dropping masks, despite coming a plateau of the number of cases in the united states. right now the united states is averaging about 60,000 cases. now it is just hovering there. it is plateauing. it is exactly where we were in the summer when many of the states, including texas had mask mandates. so here is the problem with this. if we get it right now, this could be the turning point. there is so much that is critical that is riding on the next two months. how quickly that we vaccinate versus whether we have another surge really relies on what happens in march and april. so, it is crucial right now. on that front let s take a look at what is happening in boise, idaho. there is a burn the mask rally
