The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Wednesday confirmed 258 new deaths and 11,841 new cases of COVID-19 countywide, as Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia reported its 79th fatality since the pandemic began. Public Health has identified a total of 852,165 positive cases of COVID-19 and 11,328 deaths across all areas of L.A. County. Eighteen of the people whose deaths were reported Wednesday were residents of the city of Long Beach, which has its own Public Health department. To date, the Santa Clarita Valley has tallied 18,514 COVID-19 cases – 334 more cases since Tuesday – and 134 deaths. A COVID patient is dying every 10 minutes in L.A. County, officials said.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health confirmed Thursday 290 new deaths and 15,129 new cases of COVID-19 countywide, with 16,853 total cases in the Santa Clarita Valley. The number of new deaths reported Thursday surpasses Wednesday’s all-time high. However, a significant number of deaths reported Thursday are from the backlog associated with the Spectrum outage and holiday reporting delays. In 2020, Public Health identified 770,602 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 10,345 deaths. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health confirmed Tuesday 227 new deaths, including an additional death at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, and 12,979 new cases of COVID-19 countywide, with 16,369 total cases in the Santa Clarita Valley. The high number of new deaths countywide reflects a significant number of deaths from the backlog associated with the Spectrum outage and holiday reporting delays. Public Health anticipates confirming additional deaths due to the backlog of death reports over the next two to three days. To date, Public Health identified 746,089 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 9,782 deaths.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Monday confirmed 73 new deaths and 13,661 new cases of COVID-19 countywide, as Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital reported three more fatalities, bringing the Valencia hospital’s total to 70. The Santa Clarita Valley has now tallied 16,117 COVID-19 cases 494 cases more than reported Saturday and 118 deaths; the latest Public Health dashboard lists 114 fatalities but does not yet include one of the five deaths reported by Henry Mayo last Thursday or the three new deaths the hospital reported Monday. Daily deaths have increased by 600% in L.A. County, from an average of 12 deaths per day in early November to an average of 84 deaths per day in mid-December.
