KENYA: Government Extends Mandate of the Interfaith Council for Coronavirus Response By Njoki Githinji NAIROBI, JANUARY 26, 2021(CISA)-The government has extended the term for the Interfaith Council for National Coronavirus for a further six months as the country pushes to contain the second wave of coronavirus infections. Thanking the government for extending the term, Chairperson of the council Archbishop Anthony Muheria in a January 25 press release noted that “the fight against the Covid pandemic is not over, and that we have yet to fully graduate in the phased reopening of places of public worship.” Expressing optimism on the waning of the second wave of Covid-19, the Archbishop stressed that efforts to overcome the virus should continue regardless.

KENYA: Council of Churches Calls for Tightened Covid -19 Safety Measures in School By Njoki Githinji NAIROBI, JANUARY 8, 2021 (CISA)-The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has called for continued effort to ensure safety measures are fully in place to protect students from Covid-19 as schools reopened January 4. “We have noted that there is need for continued investment in the schools to ensure control measures are effectively implemented. We urge the government to fast-track the payment and delivery of desks that were procured last year, and to facilitate construction of class rooms. This is critical in view of the rise in number of leaners in public schools following closure of many private institutions,” the council said in  January 7 statement signed by Canon Chris Kinyanjui, Secretary General of NCCK.

KENYA: Church Calls for Consensus on Contentious Issues in BBI By Njoki Githinji NAIROBI, DECEMBER 11, 2020 (CISA) – The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) has called for continued discussion on the contentious issues in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) so that an agreement can be reached among stakeholders ahead of the referendum. “We propose a continued focus on consensus building to bring everyone on board. This is important as citizens of one country who want to approach the referendum united and soberly even though we might have different positions,” they said in a December 9 press conference led by Archbishop Philip Anyolo, Chairman of KCCB and ordinary of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kisumu.
