PLAINFIELD - The man fatally struck Saturday by an NJ Transit train has been identified as a city resident.
The victim was identified as Lorenzo Bautista, 18, of Plainfield, according to Lisa Torbic, NJ Transit senior public information officer.
Around 6:40 p.m. Saturday Raritan Valley Line train 5530, which had left the Raritan Station at 6:14 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Cranford at 6:54 p.m., struck and fatally injured the pedestrian near the Plainfield Train Station, Torbic said.

About 6:40 p.m. Saturday Raritan Valley Line train 5530, which had left the Raritan Station at 6:14 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Cranford at 6:54 p.m. struck and fatally injured the pedestrian near the Plainfield Train Station, according to Lisa Torbic, NJ Transit senior public information officer.
The man s identification remains under investigation, Torbic said.
About 30 customers were on board the train, but no injuries were reported.

Man struck, killed by NJ Transit train near station, officials say

A man was struck and killed Tuesday by an NJ Transit train in Edison, officials said.
The man, who was not identified, was hit at 7:20 a.m. just east of the Edison station by a Northeast Corridor train that was on its way from Trenton to New York Penn Station, NJ Transit Spokeswoman Kate Thompson said.
No other details about the incident were released.
Northeast Corridor service was temporarily suspended between Trenton and Metropark for a few hours while the scene was cleared, authorities said.
The incident remained under investigation Tuesday evening by the N.J. Transit Police, Thompson said.
