Tuesday NJ weather: Lots of ‘ups’ and ‘downs’ this week
Tuesday will be brighter and slightly warmer than Monday.
Wednesday will be hot and potentially stormy.
Thursday looks beautiful.
Tuesday
As I was sitting outside at my son’s baseball practice Monday afternoon, I noted how it felt like a cool, breezy autumn day. Tuesday will be brighter and better.
We’re starting the day with typical late May low temperatures, averaging mid 50s across the state. Highs should reach the 70-degree mark by Tuesday afternoon. That’s still about 5 degrees below normal for this time of year - but at least humidity levels will stay nice and low too.
Temperatures will run almost 20 degrees above normal for late May this weekend, as New Jersey’s weather turns sweaty, sticky, and steamy. Possibly stormy too.
This is a challenging forecast. Because every time I turn to look at model guidance, something changes
dramatically from the day before. I think we’re getting a clearer look at the upcoming weekend, as several weak storm systems pass through New Jersey. (Key word: weak.)
Given the shaky confidence, let me summarize the weather forecast with three simple statements:
1.) The only day your outdoor plans are in serious jeopardy is Saturday, with a few waves of showers and thunderstorms expected.
2.) The only day with below-normal temperatures looks to be Monday.
3.) Humidity returns for Saturday and Sunday only.

Wednesday NJ weather: Sunny, warm, and dry. Wow.
I really want to call this a summerlike day. But there’s one big thing missing. Humidity.
I really want to call it a beach day. But the ocean is still pretty cool here in May, with water temperatures around 60.
Finally, we could really use some rain right about now, given our high fire danger and spiraling drought concerns. Yes, our weather will turn more unsettled this weekend, with several waves of showers in the forecast. But it won’t be the thorough soaking we really need.
