MITHI: Voters go to by-polls today to pick candidate of their choice from among 12 contestants who are running for NA-221 (Tharparkar) and send him to National Assembly.
The NA seat had fallen vacant after the death of Pakistan Peoples Party MNA Pir Noor Mohammad Shah after he had contracted Covid-19 on Dec 20 last year.
Analysts see the real contest between PPP’s Pir Ameer Ali Shah Jilani and Nizamuddin Rahimoon of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and predict an easy win for the PPP candidate.

A small fire erupted at a polling station in Tharparkar s Chachro tehsil on Sunday during the by-polls for the district s NA-221 seat, causing a media frenzy and panic among the voters.
According to Tharparkar SSP Hassan Sardar Niazi, the accidental fire erupted at polling station no. 126 near Chachro town and caused damage to some ballot papers and other material . The official, however, refuted however, media reports that three persons had been detained for arson.

PTI candidate Nizamuddin Rahimoon on Sunday blamed the Sindh government for an explosion that took place at a polling station in the NA-221 Tharparkar constituency where voting for the by-election is still underway.
Rahimoon, in his statement, said that Sindh police were helping his opponent under the supervision of the DSP and that the blast took place at the Kesrar polling station under police supervision .
PPP s Pir Ameer Ali Shah Jillani has won the Tharparkar NA-221 by-election with 103,502 votes, according to the unofficial and unverified results. PTI candidate Nizamuddin Rahimoon came in second. Polling for the National Assembly seat began 8am and continued until 5pm. A total of 4,000 police officers and security personnel were stationed at 318 polling stations across the district.
