Dozens of influential Malaysian civil society groups have expressed dismay and alarm after a 17-year-old student who took a male teacher to task for allegedly joking about rape in class was served with a defamation suit and called up by police for “breaching the peace”. Ain Husniza Saiful Nizam in April became a national talking point after she called out.
PETALING JAYA: Standing with student Ain Husniza Saiful Nizam, Selangor lawmakers are urging the Education Ministry to take stern action against the teenager’s school principal, who purportedly labelled her “satan’s spawn”.
In a joint statement, 27 assemblymen and 11 MPs from Selangor Pakatan Harapan took the Education Ministry to task for not addressing Ain Husniza’s statements in a TikTok video she posted about a male teacher making rape jokes in class.
No action was taken against the teacher even after the 17-year-old’s expose on rape culture in the school sent shockwaves throughout the nation.
“The ministry, in its response, did not make any mention of Ain s case but only focused on the issue of period checks on girls.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) MPs and state assemblymen have called upon the Ministry of Education to act in support of student activist Ain Husniza Saiful Nizam who is currently under attack for exposing gender inequality in schools.
The 11 MPs and 27 assemblymen said they are disappointed that the MoE has chosen to ignore the elephant in the room and remain mum on Ain s case.
PETALING JAYA: In conjunction with the Mother’s Day celebration, Niza Sharifudin, the mother of 17-year-old Ain Husniza Saiful Nizam, has come out in support of her daughter’s efforts to make schools a safer place, as she urged parents to always believe in their children.
