Food banks in Hamilton have seen an overwhelming increase in demand this year, and are expecting a crowded December, several of them say. Many record also seeing an increase in seniors and newcomers.
The Good Shepherd is hosting its 60th Thanksgiving dinner, and for the third year in a row they will be serving it in take-out containers. This year, Hamilton food banks have seen a 10 per cent increase in people using their services, and around holidays like Thanksgiving, it is common for some to run low on stock.
The city voted Tuesday to transfer operational leadership of the McQuesten Urban Farm in Hamilton to Indigenous charity organization Niwasa Kendaaswim Teg. The organization's executive director says the move was a "natural fit."
