Farmers sold buckets of cherries while local food vendors offered a cherry twist on their typical fare from cherry limeade with a cherry-chili rim dip to fresh raspberry jam spread over home-baked rustic sourdough at the first Cherry Festival Farmers Market in downtown Tulare.
The latest event organized by a local nonprofit that hopes to bring business to downtown Tulare, the festival celebrated the annual cherry harvest, a tasty but lesser-known Tulare County crop.
Exeter cherry farmer Mark Morris of Morris Family Farm compared the Cherry Festival to the weekly Visalia Farmers Market, but he said the Tulare crowd was more appreciative and energetic.
