(Photo courtesy of the zoological park) FUKUOKA A former zookeeper and others in Japan are calling on zoos across Japan to feed their predators with wild boars, deer and other animals that are locally captured to prevent crop damage. Normally animals captured during crop protection work are simply disposed of. But in 2017 Omuta City Zoo in the southwestern Japan prefecture of Fukuoka began to feed the captured pests to carnivores at the zoo, ahead of other such facilities in the country.

KOBE A Japanese pharmaceutical firm and the city of Kobe announced on March 4 that the company will construct a plant in the western Japan city to manufacture the bulk substance of a COVID-19 vaccine. JCR Pharmaceuticals Co., headquartered in the neighboring city of Ashiya, will build the plant at an industrial complex in Kobe s Nishi Ward. The company has been contracted by AstraZeneca s Japanese arm to manufacture the bulk substance of the COVID-19 vaccine, and will establish a new hub to ensure a stable supply. The plant is slated to be completed in October 2022, and is expected to commence production in 2023 or later.

Uber Eats Expands To Every Prefecture in Kyushu Uber Eats announced their service would become available in all prefectures within Kyushu. As of Mar. 4, the food delivery service begins in the prefectures of Saga and Yamaguchi. It will also begin operation in Iizuka City of Fukuoka on Mar. 11. Expanded service areas were announced for other regions, including Kitakyushu City (some parts of Kokurakita Ward, Tobata Ward, Yahatahigashi Ward Yahatanishi Ward Nakama City), Fukuoka City (Higashi Ward, Nishi Ward, Shingu Town, and Itoshima City), and Kumamoto City, too.
