After a magnitude 7.5 earthquake hit the western coast of Japan on New Year's Day, a video was shared in social media posts that falsely claimed it showed tsunami waves submerging a street in Ishikawa prefecture. While waves at least 1.2 metres (four feet) high did hit a coastal city in Ishikawa, the video in fact shows footage captured during a devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in March 2011.
