Today the highly anticipated game Nioh 2 Remastered : The Complete Edition, launched for the new PlayStation 5 console providing a wealth of new enhancement. With the dawn of a new generation, developers and publishers have been forced into making a choice: do you release a free update, or charge for an expanded or remastered version of a game? For Team Ninja’s stab at the tough as nails action role-playing game – a Soulslike, if you will – The Nioh Collection is seeing them do both.
For the original Nioh, PS5 owners can pay for Nioh Remastered – The Complete Edition, either on its own or in the collection, and get an improved version of the 2017 original. Meanwhile, anyone that bought Nioh 2 on PS4 in the last year, or grabs the new The Complete Edition can get a free upgrade to the game on PS5. Conveniently Tecmo Koei have also taken the opportunity to release the sequel on PC for the first time.

Alongside the FromSoftware epics Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro, the Nioh series is beloved for its merciless difficulty and incredible boss fights. A PS4 patch has been released to add cross-save ahead of the free PS5 upgrade for its Remastered Complete Edition, but tomorrow is the first time the second instalment will be on PC. The upcoming Remastered Edition’s features have been detailed, and – on computers – the game will support 4K resolution, ultra-widescreen, HDR, 144hz as well as the option for locked 60fps or 120fps, and it’ll also support customisable key bindings along with gamepads. In addition, if you purchase the remastered edition of the second instalment within three weeks post-launch, you will receive bonus armour named Sohaya Deserter Garb and Ornate Gold Armor.
