This year, Helsinki s Korkeasaari Zoo is throwing its support behind the conservation efforts of the Pallas s cat, also known as the manul. The Pallas s cat, a furry feline resembling a thick-coated domestic cat, hails from the harsh mountainous terrains and plateaus of Asia. This elusive species remains relatively unknown, necessitating research to focus conservation efforts effectively.
A Brazilian Rainbow Boa living in the Amazonia House at Korkeasaari has gone missing from its terrarium. The staff noticed the situation at the end of last week, but despite their efforts, the snake has not been found. The boa is not dangerous to humans. It is nocturnal and does not typically seek out human contact or public areas but prefers to retreat into hiding. The Rainbow Boa is non-venomous and preys on small rodents and frogs by constriction.
"The animal was already in bad condition during the day, very quiet, not moving much and breathing quite heavily," said Nina Trontti, Korkeasaari Zoo's Director of Animal Care and Conservation.
