taylor. live from cnn world headquarters, welcome to all of you watching here in the united states, canada, and under the world. this is cnn newsroom . okay, let s start with some good news. at least one in five adults in the united states is vaccinated. but spring break travel could undo this progress. you re looking at the scene friday in miami beach florida. people are packed together, not a mask in site. more than 1.3 million people were screened at airports on friday. it could add up to a new case spike. they re begging americans to keep wearing masks no matter what local rules say. coronavirus restrictions are loosening up from coast to coast, but if there was ever a time to put on a mask, this is it. i would just appeal to all of the votes, all of the people that have people s lives in their hands. look at the data. take some risks with your political base if you need to, but do the right thing. they re also concerned that americans are betting their guard down
admin administered yesterday alone. nearly 70 million americans have gotten at least one dose of a covid-19 vaccine, which means one out of five americans has received a shot. this as those $1400 stimulus checks are starting to hit bank accounts. despite the progress being made, thoupds of people are traveling and attending spring break events across the country. many not wearing masks. no protection. masks and social distancing don t seem to be priorities. health officials are warning of the potential consequences. saying the next few weeks will be critical in determining if we ll see another surge. even though the numbers have gone down, over the last couple of weeks, they ve plateaued and when you see a plateau at a level as high as 60,000 cases a day, that is a very vulnerable time to have a surge to go back up. we can avoid that, if we continue to vaccinate people, get more and more protection without all of a sudden pulling back on public health measures. all right.
confirms its objective in ukraine is to take full control of the black sea coast. and establish a land bridge between russia and crimea. ukraine s president warns if that happens, russia s aggression will spread to other countries. mariupol officials say an evacuation column will be attempted again today. it s supposed to get under way right about now. an estimated 100,000 civilians are still inside the battered city. as ukraine s orthodox christians celebrate easter this weekend, ukraine s president he is hopeful against prevailing against russia, here he is. translator: the 58th day of our defense is coming to an end. it ends on good friday, one of the most sorrowful day of the year for christians. the day when death seems to have won. but we hope for a resurrection. we believe in the victory of life over death. and we pray that death loses. britain s ministry of defense says russia has made no major gains in the past 24 hours. its air and sea forces haven t established
this time a massive grave outside of mariupol. officials are pointing to these satellite images showing the ground in one part of the city that s recently been disturbed, and there are claims from a credible source indicating the site has been used to dispose bodies. cnn is still working to independently verify those claims. now, it s estimated more than 100,000 people are trapped there in mariupol, including soldiers and civilians. the deputy prime minister mentioned a short time ago a humanitarian corridor is reopened after a brief delay. officials are trying to evacuate women, children, and the elderly from mariupol. in the meantime the plan now is to take full control of southern ukraine and the eastern donbas region to establish a land corridor to crimea, that area in the southern part of the country that russia annexed in 2014. take a look at this. it s new drone video showing just a scene of utter destruction there in the small village north of kyiv. house after
