City leaders invite southside community to give feedback on Southside Action Plan

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â City leaders say growing Tallahassee s southside is a priority. City commissioner Dianne Williams- Cox says the Southside Action Plan now is how they ll fast-track that growth. The Southside Action Plan is set out to put into action plans that were put into place many years ago. We re now breathing energy into it, she said.
Commissioners approved the plan on March 24, adding it to the decades-old Tallahassee-Leon County Comprehensive Plan. The first phase of the project is focused on public input. Commissioners plan to gather that public input until this fall.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â The City of Tallahassee will host a community event at Nims Middle School, located at 723 W. Orange Avenue, this Saturday, May 1 as part of an initiative to highlight Southside residents community pride.
The initiative is part of the Southside Action Plan, which is part of the overall Tallahassee-Leon County Comprehensive Plan.
The drive-thru gathering hopes to encourage participation in engagement efforts that will help shape the future of the area through the Southside Action Plan.
To ensure Tallahasseeâs Southside offers the amenities, services and quality of life that the community envisions for the area, the City is engaging in a series of events and activities to hear from the residents, business owners and other stakeholders who live, work, learn and worship on the Southside.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â Frank Nims Middle School in Leon County has a new pre-law magnet program.
Classes include an in-depth study of law history, the judicial system, forensic science, conflict resolution and policymaking.
Students enter the program in sixth grade. In seventh grade, this group will take a practice bar exam. If they pass, they ll act as lawyers during school-related trials.
âThat attorney must meet with the administration attorney,â said Frank Nims Principal Dr. Benny Bolden Jr. âThey can do a stay or we can go to mediation. If we canât come to a resolution in regards to the offense then we will take it trail and to court.â
