NILES Councilman at-Large Ryan McNaughton has submitted his letter of resignation from Niles City Council.
McNaughton submitted the letter to the Trumbull County Board of Elections on Friday and his final day on council will be Sunday. Niles Mayor Steve Mientkiewicz confirmed McNaughton submitted the letter Friday.
“Because of my new job, I don’t really have a choice. I had to,” McNaughton said.
He said he is going to be the new vice president for government affairs for the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber.
“They recruited me, and it all happened very fast. I couldn’t say no to it,” McNaughton said.

YOUNGSTOWN Terri L. Skiffey, 59, died at 10:58 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021, at St Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
She was born June 10, 1961, in Warren, the daughter of Anthony J. and Carmala LaPolla Skiffey.
Terri loved going to school at Fairhaven Workshop at a young age and also working at Purple Cat Workshop in Boardman as she got older.
She will be deeply missed by three sisters, Shirley Satterthwaite of Niles, Carol Frost and her husband Larry of Lordstown, and Chris Callow and her husband Lane of Denver, Colo.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Skiffey.
Friends may call Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles. Social distancing measures will be enforced and wearing of masks is mandatory.
