York sees nearly 9 inches of snow in season s first major winter storm
Staff & AP report
YORK, Maine Mounds of snow lined the town s streets Tuesday morning, as residents dug out after the year s first nor easter.
The snow accumulation totaled 8.6 inches at one point near Shore Road and Pine Mountain Road in York, according to data compiled by the National Weather Service in Gray.
Blustery winds pushed the snow around, forming some drifts as tall as 2 feet in the York Harbor area, and ferocious waves pounded the coastline near Nubble Lighthouse.
Shortly after noon Tuesday, York Police Department Sgt. Nikolaos Piskopanis said the morning passed without any major wrecks or concerns, despite roadways that were still a bit choppy due to the snow.
