It’s taken more than 30 years but somebody has finally been held accountable for the death of toddler Emon Harper 79-year-old former Micanopy-area cult leader Anna Young.
Young pleaded guilty and was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison for killing Emon who also went by the name Moses through abuse and starvation when she ruled over the House of Prayer.
Former Eighth Circuit State Attorney Bill Cervone, who made the decision to charge Young decades later and without Emon’s remains ever being found, said the elements of the case made it unique.
“One of a kind, truly one of a kind,” Cervone said. “I was always certain she was criminally responsible, that it was a classic cult situation … and the others were under her sway.”
