van. the victim apparently did not know the van was stolen. police told us that the victim slept in the van. we don t know how many nights he slept in the van, if he spent saturday night, new year s eve in the van, sunday night as well, maybe monday night as well. it appears he was there voluntarily, of his own will, until sometime tuesday. and this is when, police say, he spent four to five hours tied up and beaten as you can see there in the disturbing facebook live video. he apparently told his parents he was going to come back on sunday, so the question becomes, for the family, and we have not been able to confirm this, is what communication the family had with the victim starting sunday, if he in fact said he wanted to extend his stay with his friend or if he was being held and they were not allowing him to communicate. it s har to determine exactly when he became sort of a kidnapping victim throughout this three and a half day event and this time line with him
about whether it qualified as a hate crime. i think that s because the two individuals, jordan hill, one of the four suspects charged here, knows the victim. they went to school together. and so, in fact, the victim was dropped off by his parents to spend the night on new year s eve with jordan hill. so i think that s where police had some confusion about whether this, in fact, could qualify as a hate crime because clearly the young man was not targeted for a crime. he spent, in fact, several days with his friend, who became his tormenter, if you will, on this video for four to five hours an tuesday. let me give you the four names. jordan hill, 18 years old. tesfaye cooper, 18. brittany covington, also 18 and tanishia covington. her sister is 24 years old and has a prior arrest record here in chicago. all the suspects will be are due in court tomorrow, friday, at 1:30 local time, 2:30 eastern time. some of the charges are
