reporter: well, we re getting pelted with thick, wet snow that s falling, but it s pretty much just turning wet as soon as it hits the ground, not any sort of major accumulation yet. here over my shoulder at the capitol, they scaled down the schedule for today. the house trying to get its work done by early afternoon, including that big budget vote they had scheduled for tomorrow. at the white house they canceled a trip by the crimson tide national champs. all of that canceled but of the snow. look at what is in the midwest coming our way. we had snow in rock ford, illinois. lots of accumulation up there in illinois. lots of spinouts on the roads. in minnesota they had seven inches or more in that area. at the airports, most of the cancellations were at chicago s o hare airport. it looks like a lot of those night flights are back on time. all of that now headed our way.
marginally better? i don t know. that s what i was going to ask you. is this really the best we can do? well, when you have every runway in the new york area shut down over a holiday period and people trying to get home and airplanes canceled all over, i don t know what that means. it means how do you handle it. you can t open the runways. you can t make airplanes fly in bad weather. so the question is how did you handle the people on the ground. and i ll bet there s legions of stories where people had a wonderful, and legions of people thinking what am i going to do, will i ever get out of this airport. brandon, this was the first test of the passengers bill of rights which is supposed to prohibit airlines from scheduling those chronically delayed night flights of people spending 11 hours on a plane and you say the bill of rights doesn t go far enough or this wouldn t have happened. well, we would like to strike a balance. we hear stories where people can t even get informatio
