Rusty athletes in cloud nine as Edo 2020 begins The Punch Published 3 April 2021 Local athletes, who haven’t competed for a very long time following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, are happy to return to competitive action after the long-awaited Edo 2020 National Sports Festival commenced on Friday with the arrival of sportsmen and women in Benin City on Friday. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will declare the event open on Tuesday. Events at the 20th edition of the sports festival will start on April 6, with athletes across the federation already arriving in Benin City for Nigeria’s glamorous sporting event. The festival, which was initially scheduled to hold from March 22 to April 1 2020, suffered its first postponement with just two days to the event and the festival, popularly known as the Nigerian Olympics, owing to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic could not hold at the appointed time.
