The proposed National Human Rights Commission Repeal and Re-enactment bill, 2020 may have run into stormy waters as stakeholders on Monday at a public hearing differed.
The Nigerian Army which has always been at the crossfire of human rights abuse and other security agencies picked holes from some of the provisions of the proposed bill.
This was as the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mr Anthony Ojukwu, a Professor of law, Ademola Popoola and others, sought Judicial Power for the Commission.
Monday’s public hearing lacked convergence of ideas from the entire stakeholders who participated in the discussion.

The Presidency on Sunday unveiled 32 female government officials which it described as “The Buhari Women” to mark this year’s International Women’s Day.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, listed the women in a statement titled “Internation Women’s Day: See how President Buhari celebrates Nigerian women.”
Adesina described the 32 female officials that were listed as just a few of them.
“The celebration provides ample opportunity to reflect on how President Muhammadu Buhari honours the womenfolk.
“Here is a checklist of ‘The Buhari Women,’ just few of them.”

The House of Representatives on Tuesday flagged off the review of the Treaties Act of 1993, which was promulgated by the Military.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila explained that when the amendment bill becomes law, it will make the country’s laws on treaties and protocols fully compliant with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and ensure that it aligns with global best practices.
