Hundreds of Finima residents in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State barricaded the entrance gates of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) office complex on Bonny Island yesterday.
The residents, who wielded several placards, said they were protesting the failure of the company in implementing host community rights.
A protester, Mr Adagogo Lambeth Brown, a community leader in Bonny, said legacy issues that included resettling of people who lost their ancestral lands to the NLNG site in the early 90s during Gen Ibrahim Babangida’s regime were yet to be settled, and that the issues of resettlement were still hanging after many years the company took off.
