Social media users are sharing a purported image that captured the ejection of Flight Lieutenant Abayomi Dairo, whose fighter jet was shot down by bandits in Zamfara State on the 18th of July 2021.
Verdict
The narrative the image purports is false as there is no official image that captured Flight Lt. Abayomi Dairo’s ejection. The image was first released online in 2014 by Bremont Martin Baker after Martin Baker; a British Aviation Company that produces fighter ejection seat technology partnered with Bremont, an award winning British Company that produces engineered chrometers.

Flight Lieutenant Abayomi Dairo became a national hero when news of his successful ejection from a fighter jet which was shut down by bandits in Zamfara State was announced. The young pilot was rescued by a Nigerian Army Unit in Zamfara State after he evaded bandits using “survival instinct,” found shelter until he was rescued.

The range of equipment with terrorists in the North requires a pragmatic response from the Nigerian state and not this charade from the Buhari government. This has always been my position. Air crash: ‘Your gallantry relieved me’, Buhari hails pilot Dairo The Punch

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), hailed the “gallantry” of Flt. Lt. Abayomi Dairo, the pilot of Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet who survived an air crash.
The PUNCH had reported that Dairo successfully ejected from the Nigeria military’s Alpha Jet before bandits shot it down in Zamfara.
The Alpha Jet aircraft returning from a successful air interdiction mission between the boundaries of Zamfara and Kaduna, came under intense enemy fire about 12. 45 p.m. on Sunday, leading to its crash in Zamfara.
The Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF Headquarters, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, in a statement, stated that luckily Dairo ejected from the aircraft and found his way to the military base.
