The Nigerian military authorities have arrested and detained a Nigerian Navy commander, Nicholas Uchendu Akalezi aka Akalieze, and 10 other naval personnel for alleged violent activities in Kogi State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election. SaharaReporters learnt on Thursday that Akalieze with service No: NN2880 NDA and from Course 54, a native of Imo State, has been transferred by the military authorities to a detention facility in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

A 28-year-old pregnant woman, Marian Pelemo died after she was struck by a stray bullet allegedly fired by some men in military uniform in Nigeria.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday December 29, at about 9 pm in Magongo, Ogori/Magongo local government council.
The mother of one from Oturo Quarters was struck by the bullet while she was sitting in front of her family house.
According to the deceased’s elder brother, Idowu Pelemo, who spoke to Nigerian Tribune, the soldiers in a three-vehicle convoy including a Hilus van with registration number Lokoja 446 KG and another painted in military colour with registration number 014, chased a driver from Ibilo in Edo State to Magongo.

The Nigerian Army has denied reports claiming that its officers killed a 28-year-old pregnant woman, identified as Mary Pelemo in Magongo, Ogori/Magongo Local Government area of Kogi state.
The elder brother of the deceased, Mr. Idowu Pelemo, who briefed newsmen on Thursday, alleged that some men in Army uniform on Wednesday at about 9 pm in Magongo, chased a driver from Ibilo in Edo State to Magongo in Kogi State.
But, the Public Relation Officer of the Nigerian Army in Kogi state, Major Jafaru Muhammed in a telephone conversation with newsmen said “the Army was not involved in any operations please,”.

A twenty-eight years old pregnant woman, Mary Pelemo was allegedly killed by some men in military uniform in Magongo, Ogori/Magongo local government council in Kogi State.
