The police in Rivers State, south-south Nigeria have arrested the Chairman of the state chapter of the National Youth Council, Chijioke Ihunwo and 15 other pro-Governor Siminalayi Fubara supporters. According to Arise News, they were arrested over a disturbance of peace at the official residence of Martins Amaewhule, who was impeached on Monday by lawmakers loyal to Governor Fubara. Ihunwo and others were reportedly arrested after mobilising to stop an anti-Fubara protest at the Government House.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has welcomed the intervention of President Bola Tinubu to end the political crisis in Rivers State. The governors of the opposition PDP stated this in a communique released after their meeting at the Oyo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja on Tuesday. According to the communique signed by the Chairman of the Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, the governors said they “were alarmed at the recent developments in Rivers State and welcome the intervention of Mr. President to bring the crises to an end”.
