panic in japan as radiation levels inside a nuclear plant spikes. now workers have been evacuated as engineers struggle to stabilize the struggling complex. thanks for joining us tonight at 6:30. i m will thomas. and i m maureen umeh. the radiation is 10 million times above normal as residents continue to recover from the earthquake and tsunami. after reporting a huge spike in radio activity with levels ten million times higher than normal, emergency workers fled the troubled reactor on sunday. airborne radiation measured four times the limit deemed safe by the government. officials say the numbers were so high that the worker measuring radiation levels withdrew before taking a second reading. it is not clear how long workers were exposed to the high levels of radiation or how long the levels at the plant had been that high. the news comes as officials acknowledge there was highly contaminated water in all four of the complex s most troubled reactors. i have counted o
we understand that pardus was being briefed by his mother s doctor about her condition. he became emotionally distraught. that is when authorities say he responded by pulling out a semi-automatic handgun and shot the physician in the lower chest. he then lock themselves in the room where his mother was confined to a bed. it did not make sense. the entire eighth floor of the nelson building was evacuated and portions of the massive hospital were put on lockdown. it was a very horrible experience because i did not know if he was going to take a child or anything. based on initial assessment, the wounds do appear to be survivable wounds. a tactical situation has turned into a murder-suicides. investigators at the hospital, everything has reopened. but like most hospitals in the country, there are no metal detectors. officials say they will look into that, but when you have 80,000 visitors a week and 80 different entrances, they say it is very unrealistic. a c

we have several developments in the recovery from the gulf spill. but a house fire in the district. this started around 4:00 in the 4900 block of minnesota avenue northeast. the flames quickly spread. at one point the home was fully engulfed and the home is a total loss. the owners were not home at the time and the heat was so intense that an adjacent home suffered damage. we have no word on the cause. well now to the latest on earl. the storm is weakening as it heads away from canada s eastern coast and the storm is being blamed for one death in nova scotia. a man drowned trying to tie up his boat. a lot are without power. in new england, earl spared cape cod before heading to canada. by 60 mile-per-hour winds pounded this home. parts of it actually slid into the sea when the cliff it was on began to erode away. no one was hurt. and a pair of kayakers are safe and sound thanks to local rescue crews. earl swept two teens out to sea and they didn t realize how far the wi
