Mystified, Judy asked what she was supposed to have done wrong.
“You were seen walking home in an insolent manner.” Judy still hasn’t the faintest clue what the woman was talking about.
Which bonkers story brings us neatly to schoolgirl Siham Hamud, pictured below. She looks very smart in her crisp school uniform, doesn’t she? All present and correct in blazer, skirt, shiny shoes and well-pressed tie.
But the 12-year-old is improperly dressed, according to her school, Uxbridge High. That skirt breaks regulations. It’s too long. It should be above, not below, her knees.

The parents of a Muslim girl who was sent home from school for wearing a skirt that was deemed âtoo longâ are being threatened with legal action.
Siham Hamud, 12, described being bullied for her religious beliefs after being sent home every day in December from Uxbridge high school in Hillingdon, west London, and told to only come back when she wore a shorter skirt. She had been wearing an ankle-length skirt to school for years, but said she was shocked when teachers last month told her the attire was incorrect uniform.
The school says girls should wear black trousers or a black pleated skirt from official uniform suppliers.
