Around ten men sought out a confrontation with demonstrators at the pro-Palestinian protest on the campus of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) on Monday evening. The men came from out of nowhere and started hitting the demonstrators, and threw fireworks and flares at them. According to a reporter at the scene, the motives of the group that turned very aggressive were unclear. One of them wore a full-face helmet, and the faces of the others were visible. After about ten minutes, the men were forced away from the area by the demonstrators.
The police cleared out demonstrators who erected a tent camp on the Roeterseiland campus of the University of Amsterdam to protest against the war in Gaza. Riot police escorted demonstrators away from the campus and arrested 125 people. The police say protesters threw fireworks at them.

Justice Minister Dilan Yeşilgöz said she watched “with disgust” as the police cleared demonstrators from the campus. The police arrested 140 protesters, four of whom are still in custody. None of the men who attacked the protesters earlier in the evening have been arrested.
