Help for senior citizens much appreciated

Thank you to the El Campo Leader-News editor and staff, El Campo Rotary Club (President Cheryl Roitsch), Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of El Campo (Niesha Brown) and children’s ministry, 4-H students, and multiple individuals/citizens for collaborating, volunteering, planning, sorting, bagging, and distributing an array of necessities (in excess of 100 bags) which may last up to two weeks to our precious Senior Citizens enrolled in our Wharton County Junior College Senior Citizens Program – El Campo site.  Many Texans were affected by the Winter blast on all levels. Things are difficult for many seniors these days. Our senior citizens were amazed at the many donations received. They have expressed their gratitude towards your generosity and concern.

Petersburg Police arrest two people in drug raid at residence

Police issue statement thanking community partners and law-enforcement officers for working together leading up to the seizure The Progress-Index PETERSBURG Two people were arrested when police raided what they called a nuisance residence on St. Marks Street Wednesday and seized large amounts of marijuana and cash, as well as some handguns. Police identified the suspects as Damar Brooks, 37, and Iesha Brown, 29, both of Petersburg. Brooks has been charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, and Brown was picked up on an outstanding warrant of failing to appear in court to answer a drug charge. A police statement said the raid went down Wednesday at a residence in the 600 block of St. Marks Street. Police did not release how much pot and cash were seized in the raid, but a photo released by the department showed significant amounts of each.
