Pella Windows & Doors adding 120 new jobs at southeast Iowa factory

Pella Windows & Doors is adding new assembly lines to its Shenandoah factory.  Pella, based in the city for which it is named, is shifting all production of wooden, double-hung windows to the southwest Iowa location from a factory in Macomb, Illinois. The company will hire 120 workers in Shenandoah, paying them at least $20.58 an hour, according to an agreement with the Iowa Economic Development Authority. Pella will spend $5.6 million on machines for the new lines, according to the authority. The authority s board approved a $200,000 forgivable loan for Pella on Friday. The city of Shenandoah will provide an additional $40,000 forgivable loan. The company will add assembly lines to the Shenandoah plant in December and February, bringing the total number of lines at the factory to seven. Pella currently employs 303 workers there, according to the authority.

Smash Park Coming to Pella

West Des Moines “eatertainment” venue Smash Park is announcing its first franchise location in Pella. Franchisees Dr. Luke Ballenger, a Pella native, and Brian Seidl of West Des Moines are working closely with Smash Park to bring the concept to Pella with support from the City of Pella and local employers Pella Corporation and Vermeer Corporation. It will be located just south of Highway 163 at exit 40 in the Prairie Ridge Development, and the project is slated to break ground in June. Ballenger said the city holds a special place in his heart. “We love the community of Pella and are thrilled to play a part in its growth,” he said. “Smash Park is a unique concept that will add a whole new dimension of fun to complement the existing attractions. It offers an incredible variety of entertainment and recreation options – there will be something for people of all ages and interests to get excited about.”
