Hoosiers survive scare at Illinois, 58-50

It was one of the worst offensive outings of the season, an afternoon of bricks, clanks and miscues that put Indiana in a precarious position away from home. And with two of IU’s three best players struggling through Sunday’s trip to Illinois, the Illini found an opportunity to put a scare into the Hoosiers.
But that’s all it was a scare. With Illinois threatening in the final minutes, veteran guards Ali Patberg and Nicole Cardaño-Hillary took over and carried No. 15 Indiana across the finish line in a 58-50 win at the State Farm Center in Champaign.

She did it again.
With a post feed to Mackenzie Holmes in the waning minutes of Wednesday’s game against Penn State, Grace Berger furthered her reputation as a stat sheet stuffer. Simply put, she’s a triple-double machine.
Berger notched her third triple-double of the season and second against Penn State in the Hoosiers’ 90-65 win over the Nittany Lions, logging 17 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists as No. 15 IU won its third straight game and seventh contest in its last eight tries.

Indiana didn’t go home after Monday’s loss at Maryland.
Instead of boarding their charter back to the Monroe County Airport, as they normally would, the Hoosiers hopped on a bus and drove to State College, Pa., where they waited out the short-ish turnaround leading into Thursday’s game against Penn State. The early-week loss to the Terps was a stinger, a reminder of where IU sits in the Big Ten pecking order, and so the Hoosiers were glad to have an opportunity to bounce back in short order.
Against the Nittany Lions, they made the most of their extended stay out East, powering past Penn State in an 85-64 victory at the Bryce Jordan Center.
