Brown, currently in Florida training before he heads to Tokyo in two days, said he was impressed with the wall, saying it matters because the Tokyo Olympics are unorthodox games.
That s because no fans will be permitted to watch the events live and athletes, along with Olympic officials, journalists and broadcast crews, are being kept in a bubble to protect them from COVID-19, which is on the rise in Japan. In spite of the precautions, 67 cases have been detected among those accredited for the Games since most athletes and officials began arriving on July 1. A place for my friends and family, supporters, to all go and support me, having a big wall like that, celebration wall just dedicated to myself, I m humbled and definitely so grateful, Brown said in a Zoom interview.
Six swimmers provisionally nominated to represent Team Canada at Tokyo 2020 01/23/21
On Friday, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Swimming Canada provisionally nominated six athletes to represent Team Canada at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games from July 23 to August 8.
As the world continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, Swimming Canada has invoked the unexpected circumstances clause of its Olympic team nomination criteria, and is postponing the Olympic and Paralympic Swimming Trials until late May. Swimming Canada will also plan a supplementary Olympic qualifying opportunity in June.
The clause allows the Swimming Canada Selection Committee to determine if unexpected or unusual circumstances have arisen during the process of applying these Criteria and have the full and absolute discretion to resolve the matter as it sees fit, taking into account factors and circumstances that it deems relevant. Any such exercise of discretion shall be subject to the Canadian admin
Also, the Olympic and Paralympic swim trials in Toronto have been delayed from April to May.
Olympic champion Oleksiak of Toronto, world backstroke champion Masse of LaSalle, Ont., world butterfly champ Margaret Mac Neil of London, Ont., Taylor Ruck of Kelowna, B.C., Sydney Pickrem of Halifax and Markus Thormeyer of Newmarket, Ont., were pre-selected in events in which they excel. I m super-grateful and thankful to be nominated, Masse said Friday on a media conference call. Moving forward it just allows us more flexibility with our training. It kind of takes that pressure off having had such broken-up training times and limited competition.
