Scottish Secretary Alister Jack said the First Minister should be replaced by a medical or science expert in the Scottish Government daily briefings, which are broadcast several times a week. Mr Jack also urged BBC Scotland to review the First Minister’s daily appearances and branded them as the “Nicola Sturgeon Show”.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions. What should we do with our second vote in 2021? What happens if Westminster says no to indyref2?
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversation, register under fake names, and post vile abuse. We’ve had hundreds of emails from you complaining about this, asking us to take steps to ensure that these people aren’t given a platform on our site.
THE Scottish Government’s daily Covid briefings have become something of a staple in the daily ritual of the pandemic. I’m sure my routine is fairly typical of many of us trying to work from home right now: get up, make a strong pot of coffee, sit down for a few hours of work, get the telly on in the hope of some good news from the First Minister and then venture out for a dose of fresh air and some exercise before another afternoon’s monotony sat at my kitchen table. As the weeks go by, life in a pandemic doesn’t get any easier. But the daily reassurance of where we’re at, whether we are headed in the right direction, that the vaccination programme is well underway and that, some day, life can return to some semblance of normal gives everyone a much needed injection of sanity.
Former head of Better Together campaign calls on Boris Johnson to stay out of Scottish independence debate The former head of the Better Together campaign has called for Boris Johnson to stay out of the debate on Scottish independence. Blair McDougall, who led the No campaign in the 2014 referendum told the Daily Record, he agreed with Labour MP Ian Murray that the Prime Minister poses a “greater threat to the UK than any nationalist does”. The comments come amid recent polls showing growing support for Scottish independence with the SNP also polling strongly in Scottish election polls. The SNP has outlined its road map to independence which includes plans to hold another referendum even if Westminster refuse permission, effectively daring them to take legal action to stop it.
