Drone delivery player Manna raises $25m as it eyes expansion

The start-up has been delivering food and other goods in a controlled operation in Co Galway but is now looking to expand nationally.
Manna, the Irish drone delivery start-up, has secured $25m in a new round of funding as it prepares to expand beyond its testing phases.
The Series A round has been led by Draper Esprit with participation from DST Global and Team Europe, the fund headed up by Delivery Hero co-founder Lukasz Gadowski.
Previous investors Dynamo Ventures, Atlantic Bridge and Elkstone backed the start-up again.

In March, residents in Oranmore, Galway, Ireland, started buying the latest Samsung devices, including the Galaxy S21 Ultra phone. For some, the enthusiasm of a new phone was only part of the joy; the delivery of that phone added a new layer of excitement to the purchase.
The devices were delivered by drone.
Working in conjunction with drone-as-a-service company Manna, Samsung is testing drone delivery in the Irish countryside. But phones are not the only thing residents of Oranmore are ordering. Dublin, Ireland-based Manna has been working with other brands such as food delivery firm Just Eat, famed ice cream brand Ben & Jerry s and grocery chain Tesco to make deliveries throughout Galway.

Irish drone delivery company Manna has secured a $25 million (€20.7 million) investment as it looks to scale the business to operate in multiple markets by 2023.
Founded in 2018 by entrepreneur Bobby Healy, Manna has developed aviation-grade drones that fly at 80km/h and deliver goods including groceries, takeaways and medicines, within a three-kilometre radius in less than three minutes.
The company has been doing about 100 deliveries a day as part of a trial in Oranmore, Co Galway since last October and is to expand to another Irish location shortly.
