The United States Premier Hockey League held its National Collegiate Development Conference Entry Draft, during which the Twin City Thunder selected six forwards, five defensemen and two goalies as they look towards the 2021-22 season and beyond.
“We did our due diligence and we were prepared for the draft and were able to get a good list of players, and players that are a direct reflection of the direction we are trying to move in, with some younger players,” Thunder NCDC assistant coach Cam Robichaud said. “If you look at the birth years of the (drafted players), (2002), (2003) and a couple of (2004), and the league as a whole is heading that direction, that young, speedy, skilled player.”

LEWISTON – Maine Nordiques Academy 18U team coach Nick Skerlick just had a gut feeling.
After losing to Mount Saint Charles Academy 3-1 in the New England District Championship 18U championship final on April 11, some players thought the season was over. Skerlick, though, told them they still have more games to play.
Skerlick’s gut feeling came to fruition April 16 when the 18U team received an at-large bid into the USA Hockey Tier I 18U National Tournament, which are taking place in Maryland Heights, Missouri, from April 28-May 3.
Patrick Schmiedlin’s late-game heroics helped the Maine Nordiques snap their five-game losing skid Friday.
Schmiedlin scored twice as the Nordiques defeated the Danbury Hat Tricks 6-5 in overtime in a North American Hockey League East Division contest at the Danbury Ice Arena.
The Nordiques came back from a one-goal deficit twice in the third period to force overtime. Schmiedlin, who has committed to play at Colorado College, put home a pass from Makem Demers for the game-winning goal less than a minute into the overtime.
“Being mindful of the situation and how we execute our blueprint was the reason (we won),” Maine Nordiques associate head coach Matt Pinchevsky said. “They had gone over the plan and they believed in the plan. I would say it had everything to do with (our) mentality, and they remained mindful through the entire game.”
