he tells his story in a gripping new book, not without hope. there you see its cover. nick joins us now from new york. how are you doing? it s been a year. i m hanging in there, larry. i appreciate you having me on. larry: hanging in there would be the correct term? hanging in there, correct. larry: let s set out who this was. you are a physical trainer, right? correct. larry: who was on this trip? my best friend, will blakely, and other two good friends, marquis cooper and corey smith. larry: cooper and smith were in the nfl, right? yes. larry: bleakley played with who? usf as well. larry: why did you write this book? a few different reasons. i had a decision to make. just a couple months after the accident, unfortunately, i was approached and pretty much came down to the fact that there was going to be a book and i needed to make the decision whether or not i wanted to make that book in my words or there could be a book out there with whatever.
we ll talk to james carville and republican ed rowlands about this. also tonight, caught on tape. killer waves up to 26 feet came crashing through the windows of a big cruise ship. two passengers died. as you can tell, cameras were rolling when it was happening. this was inside. we re going to talk to sebastian younger, author of the perfect storm about how this can happen with these rogue waves. all of that is ahead tonight on 360. larry: action packed. ac 360 10:00 p.m., 7:00 pacific. we re back with nick schuyler. before we get to your rescue, a lot of this happened overnight, right? correct. larry: is it true marquis died in your arms? yes. larry: and will, too? yes. larry: did they say anything? you know, fmarquis was a little, once again, the hypothermia sat in. they were definitely out of the elements and said things and did some things that had nothing to do with their character as
up to that point that was definitely the most difficult decision i had to make because i knew at that point me and will had kind of spoken about it a few times that marquis had passed in my arms. larry: how long after did corey go? larry: after i released marquis it was roughly, i d say, a half hour, 40 minutes or so. yeah, you know, had to make the decision to let marquis go because corey kept trying to get away as well. yeah, it was roughly 40 minutes afterwards. larry: how would you describe, nick, your condition at that minute? well, at that point i was up on the boat. once again, i had my jacket on. so i was very lucky. you know, as bad as it sounds, the four of us were fighting so much with the waves and, you know, i was holding on to marquis and corey, so i was able to kind of create some kind of body heat.
