The election was nearly three months ago, but if you drive around town, you can still see a few political signs still stuck in the ground.
The question was posed to Manitowoc Police Chief Nick Reimer about the legality of them still being up, and he said they should be removed by now. “There certainly is an ordinance that we have…that you have to have those down,” Reimer said. ”Usually people don’t make a big deal about it. Usually, it happens on it’s own.”
He did say that they may be frozen into the ground yet, as we did see a stretch of cooler temperatures. If a complaint is filed about the sign, the Police Department would go speak with the perpetrator, but Chief Reimer said it would have to be a political sign. “There’s some signs that say things like ‘We Support Law Enforcement’, and that is not a political sign. Others have political sounding wording on it” but it only is an issue if it truly is a political sign.
